30 Years In Power, Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni Wins Fifth Term In Office
The Ugandan electoral commission has announced the results of the recent election, stating that the incumbent, 71 year old President Yoweri Museveni has won 60,75 % votes, thereby winning a fifth term in office, extending his stay to 34 years by the end of his fifth term in office.
Yoweri Museveni is, along with the despot Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, also one of the longest serving African leaders, who has now been in power for 30 years.
The incumbent Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, faced competition from Kizza Besigye , an opponent currently under house arrest, who won 35% of the vote, in a highly controversial ballot marred with intimidation of opposition , violence and the silencing of the people through blocking social media sites and messaging apps.
